Guest article time. What are today’s up and coming musicians listening to and watching on the road? What inspires them and entertains them? Italian Shoegazers CLUSTERSUN, currently recording for their second album planned for 2016 (following up 2015’s Out of Your Ego) and back from a recent U.S. tour, have taken time out to share with us their favourite 10 live performances from the bands they love via this YouTube playlist. We hope they are still making some time for the bella vita, Catania-style!

As shoegaze/wave/dreampop/psych addicted we go nuts for live footage of the bands that we love most, eager to see how they manage the challenges of bringing their sound on stage. These are 10 of our favorite live videos, in no particular order:

– Slowdive – “Golden Hair” live at Pitchfork Music Festival, 2014 –

One of the bands that most inspired us in a mind-blowing rendition of Syd Barrett’s classic: simply out of this world!

– A Place To Bury Strangers – “Ocean” live at Austin Psych fest, 2011 –

Pure sonic aggression! Let  this NYC band hit you with their signature wall of sound made of blistered, red hot fuzz and shrieking feedback.

– Ride – “Dreams Burn Down” live at Town & Country Club, London, 1991 –

Seeing Ride, Slowdive and Swervedriver reunited and back on stage is definitely the goal of these last couple of years for us, but it’s equally amazing having the chance to now enjoy such a high quality of footage of the Oxford band in the 90’s, taken from the bonus DVD included in the 25th anniversary reissue of “Nowhere”

– The Soft Moon – “Far” live on KEXP, 2015 –

Cold as a razor blade: this is how Luis Vasquez takes dark wave into “now.”

– My Bloody Valentine – “To Here Knows When” live at Fuji Rock, 2008 –

It’s really not easy to find a video that captures well the live impact of MBV mammoth wall of sound, but this 2008 footage from Fuji Rock really impressed us for its audio quality.

– The Raveonettes – “Dead Sound” live on KEXP, 2010 –

We’re definitely addicted to the Danish duo’s distinctive style that matches celestial 50’s-60’s vocal harmonies with hard edged guitars and liberal use of noise!

– Swervedriver – “Last Rites” live on KEXP, 2015 –

Time seems not to pass for Swervedriver: they sound so tight and solid now as much as back in the 90’s.

– Ringo Deathstarr – “Two Girls” live at Frank, Austin TX, 2013 –

8mm footage + our days shoegaze heroes = BOOM!

– Cheatahs – “Get Tight” live at Dropout, 2014 –

If you grow up listening Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. and My Bloody Valentine and start a band you’ll probably sound like this. And you’ll sound great!

– Savages “Husbands” live on KEXP, 2013 –

Authentic, genuine, pristine post-punk fury: this is the real “girl power”!
